On June 18 2023, KUI UPNVJ had the opportunity to invite the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) panelists to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) to introduce Indonesian culture. During the visit to TMII, FIBAA was represented by Project Managers (Friderike Uphoff, Nina Rotermund, and Yelena Istileulova), and other Panelist members (Reinhard Bachmann and Friedrich Thiessen).
Apart from visiting TMII, KUI UPNVJ also introduced several icons of Jakarta by visiting the Istiqlal Mosque, Cathedral Church, National Monument and Old City. The assessors really enjoyed and participated in the visit enthusiastically.
In the even semester of 2022/2023, UPNVJ welcomed 8 international students to participate in exchange and internship programs. This included 6 students from Ablai Khan University, Kazakhstan for the exchange program, and 2 students from Walailak University, Thailand for internships.
These students participated in the program from early 2023 until June 2023. On June 13, 2023, UPNVJ’s International Office held a farewell ceremony for these students. The Rector conveyed congratulations and best wishes to the students from Ablai Khan University and Walailak University. The Rector emphasized to the academic staff present that the faculty must be well-prepared to receive future exchange students from Ablai Khan University. This was followed by a brief report from the Deputy Head of the International Office at the Faculty of Economics and Business. It was stated that the implementation of the student exchange and international internship programs at the faculty had been quite successful and smooth.
The international students were also given the opportunity to share their impressions and messages about their time at UPNVJ. They reported having interesting and enjoyable experiences during their studies at UPNVJ and appreciated the various activities organized through the collaboration of the faculties and the International Office. The exchange students responded positively to the visits and activities conducted in areas such as Jakarta and Bandung.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has opened the 2023 Master’s Preparation Study Abroad Scholarship Program. This program is aimed at final semester students or graduates who wish to pursue further studies abroad. The program consists of a short-term training lasting 3 months, designed to enhance English language proficiency, research skills, critical thinking skills, and academic writing for research.
Requirements :
Indonesian citizen;
Maximum age of 27 years in 2023;
Active undergraduate student in Indonesia in the final semester or has completed their thesis/final project;
Commitment to continue to a Master’s degree;
Adequate academic ability, with a minimum GPA of 3.25Adequate English proficiency, evidenced by a valid TOEFL ITP® (minimum score of 500), TOEFL iBT® (minimum score of 61), Duolingo (minimum score of 105), or IELTS™ (minimum score of 6.0) certificate;
Recommendation from a university official (Head of Department/Dean/Vice Rector for Student Affairs/Rector); and
No activities that could interfere with participation in the 2023 Master’s Preparation Study Abroad Bridging Course Program.
The discussion was opened by remarks from Head of the UPNVJ International Affairs Office, who delivered a welcome address and expressed hope that the webinar would pave the way for UPNVJ to explore opportunities for further studies and academic collaboration in the Netherlands. The Rector of UPNVJ also gave a speech, highlighting the Netherlands as one of the countries with the best education systems in the world, attracting international students for their studies. It was noted that the Netherlands would be a key target for UPNVJ in strengthening its cooperation network and seeking study opportunities.
The session continued with a speech from the Indonesian Ambassador to The Hague, who emphasized that academic collaboration is a primary focus of cooperation for the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague with various higher education institutions. It was explained that the Netherlands, through the embassy, continually strives to establish various educational collaborations with Indonesia. It was mentioned that there are approximately 2,000 Indonesian students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the Netherlands, either through scholarships or self-financed by their respective universities.
The Education Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague presented an overview of the education system in the Netherlands. It was explained that in terms of research, Dutch universities typically employ Ph.D. students with funding amounting to 250,000 Euros or 4 billion Rupiah per year. The funding for such research is usually provided by the LPDP scholarships or EU Horizon Funding. The Indonesian Embassy in The Hague also focuses on various Indonesian universities that have not yet established direct communication with Dutch universities. Some of the programs between the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague and various Dutch universities include student conferences and sending Ph.D. students for research.
It was explained that some types of collaborations favored by Dutch universities include joint master’s and doctoral degrees, double degrees, and the admission of Ph.D. scholarship students in the Netherlands through research programs. The Indonesian Embassy in The Hague stated that they are ready to facilitate communication between UPNVJ and universities in the Netherlands.
Pada 9 Mei 2023, dilaksanakan webinar yang menyampaikan informasi Peluang Studi Lanjut, Beasiswa, Bekerja, dan Kerja Sama Akademik di Belanda. Webinar tersebut diisi oleh Bapak Drs. Mayerfas, MA., Duta Besar Luar Biasa dan Berkuasa Penuh Republik Indonesia untuk Kerajaan Belanda dan Bapak Prof. Dr. Agus Setiabudi, Atase Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan KBRI-Den Haag, Belanda.
Duta Besar KBRI-Den Haag menyampaikan bahwa kerja sama akademik menjadi salah satu prioritas kerja sama utama bagi KBRI-Den Haag dengan berbagai perguruan tinggi. Dijelaskan bahwa Belanda melalui pihak KBRI terus mengupayakan berbagai kerja sama di bidang pendidikan dengan Indonesia. Dijelaskan bahwa terdapat sekitar 2.000 orang mahasiswa Indonesia yang melakukan studi pada jenjang sarjana maupun pascasarjana di Belanda.
Salah satu alasan utama penunjang efisiensi pendidikan tinggi di Belanda yaitu penggunaan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar pada hampir seluruh Universitas di Belanda. Dipaparkan pula bahwa terdapat 14 Universitas Universitas di Belanda yang pendidikannya berfokus pada riset. Sementara itu, terdapat 44 Universitas di Belanda yang berfokus pada bidang ilmu terapan.
Pihak KBRI-Den Haag memaparkan bahwa skema beasiswa yang paling umum di Belanda adalah LPDP dan pembiayaan pribadi dari Universitas masing-masing untuk studi ataupun penelitian. Disampaikan bahwa beberapa Universitas yang menjadi rekomendasi untuk dijajaki kerja sama yaitu seperti Maastricht University, Wageningen University, dan Groningen University. Disampaikan pula bahwa pada tanggal 21 Juni 2023 mendatang akan diadakan diskusi virtual bersama antara jajaran Maastricht University dengan KBRIDen Haag dan berbagai perguruan tinggi di Indonesia dalam membahas peluang kerja sama.
PT ADHI KARYA (Persero) Tbk. has launched an international competition for Indonesian students to pursue advanced education at the Master’s and Ph.D. levels. Through the R-Adhikarya Niche Award (RANA) program, PT ADHI KARYA (Persero) Tbk. invites young visionaries to participate in developing their potential and vision for the future of Indonesia.
Through the competition held, the RANA Program will award scholarships to the winners to pursue advanced education abroad. The RANA Program offers opportunities for students to pursue further education at three prestigious institutions in the United States: The East-West Center in Honolulu, Stanford University in California, and Cornell University in Ithaca. The RANA Program also provides additional accommodations such as living expenses, tuition fees, and housing costs during the students’ studies.

For UPNVJ academic community members aged 18-25 who wish to study in the United States briefly and for free, you can apply for the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Academic Fellowship Fall 2023. The YSEALI Academic Fellowship is a short-term, intensive academic program designed to provide a group of young leaders with a deeper understanding of the United States and a specific theme while enhancing their leadership skills. The fellowship will focus on one of three themes: Civic Engagement, Environmental Issues, and Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.
Requirements :
Aged between 18 and 25 at the time of application;
Citizens of one of the following countries: Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Vietnam;
Residents of one of the following countries: Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, or Vietnam;
Not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.A full-time undergraduate or graduate student, or graduated less than five years ago from a higher education institution;
Proficient in English, able to read, write, and speak English in a U.S. university classroom. (Note: TOEFL, IELTS, or other test scores are not required;
English proficiency will be assessed through the application form and an interview with YSEALI program staff);
Eligible to receive a J-1 visa (The J-1 visa is for individuals approved to participate in work-and-study-based exchange visitor programs to the United States sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. As an Indonesian recipient of the J-1 visa for the YSEALI Academic Fellowship program, you will be subject to a two-year Foreign Residency Requirement, meaning that for two years after you return from the fellowship program, you will not be eligible to apply for a visa to immigrate to the United States as a Lawful Permanent Resident or to apply for a work visa allowing you to accept employment in the United States without a waiver. However, the Foreign Residency Requirement does not affect your eligibility for student, tourist, or business visas in the U.S.).
Selection Criteria :
Strong leadership qualities and potential in their university, workplace, and/or community;
Interest, knowledge, or professional experience in one or more YSEALI themes (civic engagement, social entrepreneurship and economic development, environmental issues);
A commitment to or interest in community service, volunteerism, or mentoring;
A serious interest in learning about the United States and ASEAN as a region;
Willingness to actively participate in an intensive academic program, community service activities, and study tours;
A commitment to returning to their home country to apply leadership skills and training to benefit their community, country, or the Southeast Asia region; and
Little to no prior experience in the United States.
The signing of the MoU between UPNVJ and the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) on April 3, 2023, was a follow-up to the exploratory discussions attended by the UPNVJ International Office, Mr. Prof. Dr. Bernardo Meyer, Chief of the President’s Office at UFSC, and the Indonesian Embassy in Brasilia on September 16, 2022. In addition, to initiate the collaboration, the UPNVJ International Office organized a webinar on October 13, 2022, with the theme “Education System, Study Opportunities, and Collaboration with Universities in Brazil.”
The MoU signing event was attended in person by Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., Rector of UPNVJ; Dr. Taufiq Fedrik Pasiak, M.Kes., M.Pd.I, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Sri Lestari Wahyuningroem, PhD., Head of the Research and Community Service Institute (LP2M); Dr. Bambang Susanto, MA., Head of the UPNVJ International Office; and staff.
Meanwhile, the event was attended virtually by representatives from UFSC, including Mr. Prof. Dr. Irineu Manoel de Souza, Rector of UFSC; Mr. Prof. Dr. Bernardo Meyer, Chief of the President’s Office at UFSC; Ms. Dr. Fernanda Geremias Leal, Director of UFSC International Relations; representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Brasilia, such as Mr. Edi Yusup, SE., M.Sc., Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil; Mr. Resha Maulana, Head of the Social and Cultural Information Section, and staff; as well as other members of the UPNVJ academic community, such as Mrs. Erly Krisnanik, S. Kom., MM., Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The event begin with remarks from Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., Rector of UPNVJ, who expressed his appreciation for the establishment of the collaboration between UPNVJ and UFSC through the MoU. He noted that the signing of the MoU is part of UPNVJ’s efforts to enhance its internationalization and achieve its vision of developing networks and partnerships both domestically and internationally. It is hoped that the cooperation between UPNVJ and UFSC will be successful through the implementation of several collaborative programs, such as faculty and student mobility, joint research and publication, guest lectures, and the development of other innovative cooperation programs.
This was followed by a speech from Mr. Prof. Dr. Irineu Manoel de Souza, Rector of UFSC, who welcomed the collaboration between UPNVJ and UFSC and expressed his hope that it would enhance academic and research cooperation. In his speech, he provided a brief profile of UFSC, which is located in Santa Catarina, Brazil, and has four campuses.
Lastly, a speech was delivered by Mr. Edi Yusup, SE., M.Sc., Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil, who noted that the cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil is not only in the political and economic fields but has also expanded into education, as evidenced by the signing of the MoU between UPNVJ and UFSC. He highlighted that Santa Catarina, where UFSC is located, is Brazil’s second-largest partner city in terms of cooperation with Indonesia. It is hoped that through this collaboration, Indonesia and Brazil can contribute to the international society.
On Monday, March 27, 2023, UPNVJ officially established an official collaboration with Lobachevsky University, Russia, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., Rector of UPNVJ; Professor Oleg Trofimov, Rector of Lobachevsky University; Dr. Alexander Bedny, Vice Rector for International Affairs; Dr. Konstantin Kemaev, Deputy Vice Rector for International Affairs; Dr. Ermatita, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences; Dr. Kusumajanti, M.Si., Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences; and other academic civity of both Universities virtually and in person.
The event was opened by the remarks of Dr. Drs. Anter Venus, MA., Comm., Rector of UPNVJ, who briefly introduced UPNVJ’s faculties and study programs and highlighted efforts to strengthen international cooperation networks. He expressed his hope that the signing of this MoU would open up opportunities for collaborative programs such as faculty and student exchanges, double degrees, guest lecturing, and more between UPNVJ and Lobachevsky University.
Following this, Professor Dr. Oleg Vladimirovich Trofimov, Rector of Lobachevsky University, delivered his remarks, thanking UPNVJ for initiating the collaboration through the MoU signing. He hoped that the MoU would pave the way for both universities to enhance quality internationalization. Mr. Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Russia, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of both universities in strengthening Indonesia-Russia academic relations through inter-university cooperation.
A symbolic MoU signing ceremony and documentation of the event were conducted. The event continued with a discussion between UPNVJ and Lobachevsky University on the implementation plans for the MoU programs. The discussion was opened by Dr. Bambang Susanto, MA., Head of the International Office of UPNVJ, who explained that both universities had previously explored a double degree program between the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UPNVJ and the Faculty of Philology of Lobachevsky University. He hoped that in addition to this program, UPNVJ and Lobachevsky University could also implement programs in other fields.
